Service light 1998 s70

The service light came on for oil change. Luckily I did that 500 miles ago. Everything says hold trip meter down and turn ignition to 2. I did manage to set trip meter back to zero but light won’t flash. Yes I had it pushed before going to 2. Held it long enough that I have a dimple in my finger.
So I dug out the reader and plugged that in. Gave an option to clear service light and after entering car make model year it came back with hold the trip meter in and turn to 2.
Net videos show it flashing after 5 seconds or so and I held it for easily over a minute.
Any ideas?
TIA

You are trying the directions for a 1999+ car.

A 1996-98 requires a special tool to reset the service light. Either the Volvo scan tool or an aftermarket tool that plugs into the OBD port. Sorry - If you don't have and can't get the tool - take the dash out and remove the bulb.

Service light

Hmmmm? My plug in reader suggests the trip button than go to 2 method. Might have to search out another reader.
It is a service light and goes out after a few minutes. IF it gets annoying, probably not, I think I’d just put a piece of duct tape over it vs pulling the dash. But that is one option though. Thanks

Do a Google search for Volvo Service Light reset tool, or look for the same on Ebay. I found one a couple years ago for about $30. Works for Volvo, VW, BMW and Mercedes.

You can use the android app 850II OBD to reset the light. All you need is the app, it's free & a bluetooth OBD adapter. No special tool needed.
