Shiftlock Overide

OK, Here's the thing.

I am less than used to owning Euro cars, all of my others have been Australian, English (sort of euro I know) and most have been pre 90s. Hence I am not sure what the shiftlock override does in my automatic Volvo S70 (I'm also used to manuals).

If someone could please explain in simple language on its uses, where and when it would be useful and just exactly how do I use it... I would be most pleased.

I am guessing - and this might show me up, but just to prove I tried to read the manual, it is something to do with the 'free wheeling' when you release the accelerator?

Ok - If you can answer that - Then maybe you can also tell me does any old security code fit into the radio or is it car or radio specific? I guess the battery cables were removed during the cars' transit and the radio codes are nowhere to be found. I would really like to avoid removing the radio, so is there any other way...

Well, I guess there is plenty for you to answer - thanks!

SLiM :-)

Still not sure myself about the Shiftlock but as far as the radio code is concerned, contact a Volvo dealer and give them your VIN number. They will give you a code. Turn the ignition to the "I" position and turn the power on for the radio. It should say "OFF". Let it sit for 1.5 - 2 hours and the radio will change to "CODE". Enter the code from the presets and you should be good. You only have three tries to get it right though. I don't know what happens after 3 but it can't be good...

The shiftlock override button is used when the automatic shift lock release doesn't function. All it does it let you take the car out of park and put it into gear. When you enter the wrong radio code the radio goes into lockout mode and will not accept another code for 2-3 hours. of key on time. Your local Volvo dealership should be able to give you the radio code with the right info proving that the car is yours.
