So I have now owned my S70 GLT for less then a week and so far i'm utterly pleased with it. It's highway ride is superb and the car feels rock solid at cruising speeds. Between 65-75 mph it as peaceful a car as I've ever been in. So far i have one minor pet peeve which is the single speed interval wiper, no biggie. My question is what kind of gas milage should i expect. Right now i'm getting about 14mpg with a good amount of highway driving, this is far from the promised 28 mpg hell right now i'd settle for the 19 city they said. What gives? Is there anything I can do to improve the milage?

Do you know when the last tune up service was done?That can play a factor in the gas milage to.

I'm not sure, but the car now has 63K miles. A recent trip to my local volvo dealer revealed that a 60K mile tune cost almost $700. Exactly what do they do for $700 is what I want to know. Is that reasonable?

They change oil,coolant and flush the brakes.They also change spark plugs,fuel filter,air filter,and pollen filter if equipt.Rotate tires,check brakes and give the car a good look over.Top off all other fluids.I will check on the price tom and let you know if it is close.

thanks and i think i might go there just so i can have the peace of mind of a volvo tech going over the car and making sure everything is up to snuff.

The 60k service here in Fla. is about $500.00.Let me know how you make out if you take it to the dealer.

My local mech said he would charge me $400. he said he owned an 850 and now owns a S80 so he nows how expensive the dealer is

just a note the dealer who sold me the car called me and asked me how i liked it so far? I told him about my MPG worries and he told me to bring it in on tuesday so he could check it out

Which brings me to an interesting question, Do you think Volvo will or should introduce a turbo diesil in the US. seems VW and MB are the only players in that game right now.
Am i mistaken or don't they offer a 2.5 td in europe? 40mpg and an 18.5 gallon tank= 740 miles to a tankful. Ok why is that making me excited! |

say tech let me pick your brain for a sec.
first tank of gas i was lucky to get 14mpg second i got around 18mpg third was good for just under 20mpg now i'm on my forth tank full and am ave. about 22mpg what's up? the mech at my local gas station told me if the car had any work done to it and they unplugged the battery for an extended period of time the computor might need a couple of weeks to full reset itself. he said something about alot of the oxygen sensor having to reset and the car burn rich. true or false? |

Not exactly true when the battery is disconnected it will reset the entire system to factory programed values.If a repair is made and the computer is not reset that would cause more havoc on the computer.It will take about a week to reset by itself if not reset.As far as the milage diffrence could just be the gas you got.I have run into the same problems with my own car.Also in the summer you will get better milage than in the winter due to the change of gas for the winter season.You can use what ever grade you want they really arent picky.

so basicly the car would be rest around tomorrow if they didn't reset it. thanks tech. so premium won't give me better milage like some suggested. some bunk the tried to feed me about turbo charged engine and higher compression needing higher octain to combust properly

If you don't hear any pinging or notice much diffrence i wouldn't worry about using premium gas.I know a lot of Volvo drivers that use the 87 octane and never had a problem.

turbo motors need premium fuel -- cost is minimal compared to installing a new turbocharger. Also you're giving up some power by not running high test in the GLT.

Most of the time turbo's go bad from overheating due to oil sludging from lack of oil changes.They don't go bad from lack of octane from fuel.
