Trunk Unlocking Issue
Hi guys, this is my first post here, and I am also the proud new owner of a 98 Volvo S70 T5 [sm=smiley1.gif]
I bought the car with 94500 miles, and I've driven it a little over 1000 miles. So far, the car runs great and I've had no mechanical problems whatsoever. There are a few minor issues I would like to fix though. Its nothing major, but it is somewhat of an annoyance. One problem I have deals with the trunk, in which it can only be unlocked with the key. When I operate the turnk release on the driver door, I can hear a clicking noise, but the trunk does not open. The rear realease above the license plate also does not work. I'm guessing its a faulty connection with the latch, but I'm not sure myself. Has anoyone had a similar issue? |

These cars can be funny about the trunk. I see it alot but customers never want to spend the $$$ to fix it.

RE: Trunk Unlocking Issue
I would suppose that depends on just how much money is involved. I did my research before buying my car and I knew that these cars tend to hurt their owners a bit in the pocket. However, I loved this car so much that I looked the other way. It is a pretty big annoyance to have to remove the key from the ignition to unlock the trunk, so I would very much like to have this fixed. Is this something that I can fix myself, or is it something best left to an experienced mechanic? I dont mind shelling out the dough as long as its a reasonable quantity.

If you are handy with a volt meter you should be able to fix it.

RE: Trunk Unlocking Issue
At my admittance, since I dont know much about cars, I have been doing research to learn as much as I can. I still have a long way to go however, and I would hate to open it all up only to not be able to put it back together again. I went to go see my family mechanic today who took a look at it. He decided to order the trunk apparatus and replace it to see if that fixes the problem.

Ok see if that fixes it.

Did you end up fixing it? Mine just started doing this yesterday and it's gonna annoy my wife when she gets back from her family trip. I can hear the mechanism move, but it doesn't release the latch unless I put the key in.
Thanks. |
I have the same problem. It is definantly an electrical problem with mine because every once in a while the system will work. I'd look into it more myself but it doesnt trouble me too much.
