Vaccum leak
 

I was cleaning my air filter yesterday and I noticed a damage hose elbow. I replaced it with a piece of tube from the local auto parts store but it still seems to have a little kink in it. I'm also sure not what the hose is for. I have some pictures I can show you guys to see if you can tell me what it's for and maybe a spot to get a new elbow. The arrows show the where the hose runs and the on in front of the engine is where it was leaking from.

There's a kit from ipd that has spare elbow joints. I've replaced a couple myself. You also want to check one that is VERY hard to find. I'll take a look at my engine later and try to describe to you where it is the best I can. It's a VERY common problem on those engines.

You must be reffering to the one on the intake behind the power steering pump.
As for the one the OP is trying to find, the local dealer should have them in stock, or you could go to napa with the old one, likely they will be able to get you another one.

What year is your car,because my 1998 s70 my vaccum line goes somewhere different,i think.

It's a 98 s70 t5. I'm not sure if it's the Vacuum line or not. I just heard air being pushed through it so I assumed it was.

It's part of the PCV system. The stealer has the hose connections for something like $3. You should check to see if your PCV system needs work. After you drive somewhere, pull the oil dipstick out a little and see if smoke comes out. If so, you need to have your PCV system services. It may need the oil box replaced or some other line is plugged up.

I just did my S70 and my 850 T-5R. On the S70 GLT, the entire system replacement was a 8 hour job. Ouch! on the T-5R it was a 5 hour job.

Usually a hose with a hole in it will pop a CEL.

Something strange happened last night. I was driving with the cruise control on and out of nowhere the car starts slowing down like the cruise control just turned off. So I turn off the cruise control and continue driving for a minute and take an exit. At a stop light the car is idling fine sounds normal and I'm sitting at about 900rpms. I start moving again and at around 30-40mph it feels like the car slows down for a second. If I give it gas it will speed up but every once in awhile it will slow down for a second. I just replaced my MAF with a brand new one from IPD. It took off my check engine light and was running perfect. Then I noticed the Vacuum leak and replaced the elbow with a small piece of rubber tubing as a temporary fix. I figured that even though the tubing has a very small kink in it, it would be better then the elbow that's almost broken all the way through. My question to you guys is, do you think that hose/elbow is what is causing my car to slow down or do you think it's something different like something to do with the fuel system?

Just drove the car for a few minutes, pulled the dipstick and their was a little smoke coming out. Would the PCV system cause my car to slow down like I explained in the previous post? Or do you think it could be a fuel filter or something?

Yeah, I just replaced the PCV sys. last night. There's still an oil leak and now my car has a rough idle and gets rough once I get above 2500 rpm.

I'll probably buy the kit from ipd within the next few weeks. Been driving my car a lot after it sputtered a couple of times and it hasn't happened since (crosses fingers). I noticed today the shifting button is starting to get stuck. I know they have a repair kit from ipd but has anyone been succesful on adding an after market one?

I got away with spraying WD 40 in the shifter button for a couple of years. But eventually the button actually cracked. I replaced it with the IPD replacement. It worked perfectly. It was a little tricky getting the shift knob off, but when I followed their directions to wiggle it, it came right off. Getting the little spring in when reassembling is like a little puzzle. Takes a few attempts to get it in just the right way. But its easy to do, and it continues to work perfectly for me.
