Vibration at 55 mph
Hi, I own a S70 AWD 1999 and since a week having intermitting hole car vibration when driving at 55 mph, tought it was the propeller shaft but good (missing front plastic boot, can we find a boot only or just in kits?).
CV joints ok. Does someone have an idea !! |
RE: Vibration at 55 mph
If the Boot is torn and Grease is Gone better off getting a rebuilt Axle.
The joint will fail pretty soon after the New Boot and Gease is installed. |
RE: Vibration at 55 mph
Hi Tech, Ok for axle, how much would a rebuilt cost? (new $900)
I brought the car to an Indy and they told me that the vibration could be the viscous coupling $2000 ?? or wheels not worn equally that can cause many problems. Also they found four codes: P1171 fuel trim at the upper or lower limit P1618 (Volvo secret code) Faulty Cable Fault Between TCM & ECM P0740A P0740 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfunction P0442A, P0442 (Volvo code 612) Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak) I'm going in at the dealer for some warranty work, I will see what they come up with. |
RE: Vibration at 55 mph
You should be able to find an Axle pretty cheap.
Have the Dealer look at the Viscous coupling (Driveshaft). Look in the Phone book for places that rebuild Axles and call them for prices. Did they clear the codes? |
RE: Vibration at 55 mph
Hi again, will search for a place to rebuild axel.
Yes codes where cleared but the P1171 came back after a day, changed spark plugs, but mechanic said needs about 3 hours to go thru the complete diagnostic? Today check engine came back on. |
RE: Vibration at 55 mph
P1171 is usually a Vaccum leak somewhere or a Bad Mass Flow sensor.

RE: Vibration at 55 mph
If you replace one CV joint, can a vibration in the front end be caused by the other CV joint not being as tight as the new one?
