I don't care what they claim this stuff is, $50 for 50ml that's insane!!!!! Pure smelted gold would be cheaper.

There has to be a better alternative? And no it isn't worth it leaking but it's not a magic goo that no one else sells I'm sure.

Also what kind of brush is used to apply this?

Sorry to say but this is the best stuff to use so you have no leaks later.

I use a mini paint roller to put it on.

Isn't this simply an anaerobic liquid gasket material. Really what is it that makes this better than other permatex options available in the market.

Tech- Have you used other materials and seen them fail? What has been used and what was the failure?

As far as the paint roller that sounds great, I was thinking maybe one of the little foam ones.

Yes it is an anaerobic liquid gasket. I forget the brand names we have tried. But every other one we have tried ended up with oil leaks where we used it.
I know it is expensive but that is the only stuff I have seen that works really well.

I'm not sure but that says OEM so that is probably it. But if retail is 24.99 that means volvo is charging twice retail? Wouldn't surprise me.

Nope... that actually ISN'T it... FCP Groton is wrong on that one. I got that stuff, and it's simply clear RTV, which is totally wrong for structural engine parts, and the cam cover+ oil pan on these engines are structural. RTV won't form as thin a film as anaerobic sealers will, meaning the pan won't be as stiff, and tolerances could be off.

And ordinary anaerobic sealer, like the stuff you buy from an auto- parts store, costs about the same as the Volvo stuff does, and it's sold in tiny little tubes.

I'm with Tech on this one... suck it up and buy the Volvo stuff. There's enough in one tube to do a few gaskets. Also, the dealer I buy parts from sells it for about $30/ tube. Call around!

I just did two motors back to back, a 96 850 NA and a 96 850 turbo. Bought sealant from FCP. First.. NA rebuild I got the hot pink stuff in an unmarked white tube...great stuff seemed real application specific. the pink color and viscocity made it easy to apply a thin coat and see exactly where it had been rolled on.

For the turbo they sent me this victor reintz stuff that was very thick, difficult to roll on in a thin coat and I had to look closely to where it was and wasn't and skin time was 5 min. I do not agree that it's simple RTV, it's not. It smells different, acts different, no... not RTV.

but time will tell ... the NA has no leaks from these interfaces. the turbo just hasn't had enough time to tell.

Bobec- "skin time" is all you need to know about that stuff. The pan is supposed to use anaerobic sealant- this means that it cures only in the absence of air. The Volvo stuff doesn't harden at all unless it's in between flanges and compressed. The Victor Reinz stuff from FCP certainly has its uses... but it's NOT the right stuff for these engines.

oh, and the stuff I got from them was clear, and smelled like vinegar- that's why I say it was RTV, as RTV gives off acetic acid as it cures. But maybe they've changed formulations.

I am just curious what part of the car needs this "Liquid Gasket"?
- Cylinder head
- Valve Cover
- Oil Pan?

The Cam cover uses it,oil pan uses it, and the intermediate section uses it.

Nope they do not.

Hello, Ford use the Volvo v70 T5 engine in some of their cars and sell the sump sealer at about half the Volvo price. I assume it must be the same stuff.
