Volvo S70 shifter button replacement. Key Stuck In the Ignition

Volvo S70, V70, XC70, 850 Key Stuck In The Ignition:

If you have problems getting the key out of the ignition, chances are, you have a bad shifter knob button. The button can be replaced in minutes. Until then, pull the button out manually.

Found a cheap replacement part

Ebay, username volvonest.....here is the Ebay link

Volvo Gear Shift Shifter Knob Button Repair Kit for 850 S70 V70 | eBay

but if it does not open, just search the username volvonest in Ebay and I am sure you will find them. I got the repalcement button with a new spring included for 19.99 SHIPPED.

Passing this along since I spent a while searching for on cheaper than IPD...and found it. Worked perfect on our 98 S70, works like new again.

just passing information along....enjoy

I had this happen on a couple of cars. The grease in the shifter was old and sticky, so the internal linkage to the button wouldn't return. It just needed lubrication really in my case. So if you don't want a complex recovery, you could try spraying some dumb ol' WD 40 into the top of the shifter, and let it run down the shift lever and hit whatever it can. If you can take the top of the console off, you can make it do whatever you need to.

Yep I found out I had to pull the shifter release button out to get the key out.

For me it got worse. I could jiggle the shifter and it would return and release the key, but then after a while that didn't work any more.
