Volvo S70 stalled while driving

and will not start back up. Had to have it towed home. I just got this car in febuary and it is a 1998, ran good , no problems except for us having to change the power steering pump and rear brake pads.
I was driving along at about 35 mph and all of a sudden I could feel a little sort of vibration or the motor sputtering like maybe it was running out of gas
, but it is not that because there is 1/4 of a tank of gas. And if I try to start it now it acts like it wants to start but it is not getting enough gas. If anyone has an idea what my cars problem might be please let me know. I will check back here daily.

Fuel pump relay may be bad. They are a problem for the vehicle. rspi has a video for checking/replacing it.

we checked the relay by removing it and using a wire in its place and it did the same thing each time, ran for around 10 minutes and then it died. so we didn't change the relay yet. we replaced the fuel pump because we couldn't hear it turn on.but the new pump is working because we can hear it. but it is still running for about 10 minutes and then stalling. we also checked the shrader valve and there is no gas there after it stalls. so what else do you think the problem could be?could the fuel filter be causing this?

You can hear the pump running but there is no fuel in the rail?

Have you replaced the fuel filter? That should always be done after replacing a fuel pump. fuel filter is the #1 cause of pump failure. If you have a fuel pressure tester, test the pressure BEFORE the pressure regulator. You should see 80-100 psi there.

The next option is the fuel pressure regulator. The rail should be aroudn 51 psi. If you have 80-100 from the pump and there is not rail pressure it would have to be dumped by the regulator.

Just make sure you can hear the pump running.

My husband cleaned the idle control valve and then the car ran good for about 3 days and then it quit again I guess we will try a new fuel filter and see if that helps, it seems like it always quits after I get gas.
