01/S80/2.9 Front Brake Rotors
 

Was Replacing the Front Brake Rotors on my 01 S80 2.9 and noticed something very confusing..as you know these have center vents on them..to help keep them COOL...

The Left side Rotor Vents were pointed forward..so when moving forward thru the air..it will draw the air into the Vent and pass through the Rotor..helping to keep it COOL..

However, I discovered the right side (passenger) Rotor Vents were pointed backwards..meaning, when the car goes forward..the Vents would push the air away NOT letting it through the rotor for COOLING..

I double checked the the company I ordered them thru to see if there was a difference between the Left And Right Front Rotors and there wasn't...they were all the same for both sides..

The OLD Rotors that came off the car..were also installed this way..

Has anyone on here experienced this on their S80's...seems mighty funny Volvo would go to all the trouble to design Cooling Vents in their Brake Rotors and one side be backwards to the airflow..

I specifically looked for Left and Right Front Brake Rotors..but can't find anyone who sells them this way.

I was part of a NASCAR short track team and we used pretty high dollar brake packages, and I noticed the vents were facing the wrong way on BOTH rotors. The team owner actually called up the brake manufacturer and they told us the vents facing the way we were expecting dont really suck in air the way we would of expected them to. They said they had them made facing the other way so that air would be sucked from behind the rotor from the spindle, and be flung/pushed out. If that has any merits I dont know, but overall you can rest easier that the manufacturer of atleast a $3000 brake package (if not more) said they make both of them facing the wrong way on purpose.
