02 2.9 nonturbo immobilizer-see manual

Car won't start. Has immobiliser-see manual.
What causes this to happen? Lights would dim as I would stop for garage door and was at idle, then when I gave it has the lights got brighter.
Have error 025 srs airbag on and service light on.
Ran fine. Got 400 miles to a tank with it up to this. I live in mn and times are tight right now so dealership isn't an option...

I tried both keys.starting it from neutral. Made the wheel lock.

Usually that means that CEM lost keys.

Smitty - does your starter crank at all, or is it just silence - all lights and chimes work perfectly?

Smittys80 01-10-2015 07:32 AM

Yes all lights seem to be there with full power. It is close to zero degrees in mn right now. I did try another key, and flipped both 180.

I have an '03 XC70 with very similar symptoms that I just fixed. I did the key flip, had it towed, new starter...etc, etc and I just found this video that worked. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhNawwOORiM
Seems the starter/solenoid connector gets corroded and makes a bad connection. It worked for me, hopefull for you too!

virtualbetsy 01-10-2015 02:29 PM

Oh, and I sprayed some CorrosionX on the connector which cleaned it right up.

Thank you. Itll be the first thing I go to when I get wrenching on it and I'll keep you posted. Luckily this happened in my driveway and I was able to push it into the garage and didn't have to tow it! Wish me luck haha

It sat over the weekend. Got home and tried it again just to make sure.... Same thing.. So I located and cleaned all three wires on the solenoid and sure as ****, fired right up!! Thanks a ton for the advice

That's fantastic! Stay warm and now we know what wires to jiggle if it happens again.
