'02 S80 problems - PLEASE help!!
 

I bought a used S80 sedan, no turbo I think its just a 2.9 automatic. Love the car, has navigation and everything but have a couple questions

1. What size rims can be put on the car? I hate the stock ones on it

2. The car drives terribly when its wet or snowy outside, almost like everything up front is LOOSE. When I hit wet or snowy pavement it darts left and right at will, same thing happens on dry pavement when I hit a bump. Any ideas what could be wrong?

I have seen 18's on the S80's

Have the control arm bushings inspected.
The steering is pretty touchy on these cars.

1. I have also seen 18" rims on s80's but dedpending on what size you have now new steer stops may be needed or adj.
2.what is the tread depth on your tires? and also check the tie-rods and control arm bushings

What type of tires are you driving on. Here in the North East, I run with snow tires and have no problem. My summer tires would be murder in snowy wheather but with such a warm winter, "so far" that doesn't seem to matter.

this car slips and slides quite a bit on snow, ice and water. The stability control does a pretty good job getting it back on track though. Remember that putting on bigger rims specially ones with chrome will wear out your braking mechanism alot faster

Mine is a 99 S80 2.9 Non Turbo with 18 Voxx Racing wheels. You can get them with the volvo specific 5X4.25" bolt pattern, which is really an oddball bolt pattern so it limits about half of the aftermarket wheels you can run that will work with this car. Not these silly universal ones. They're 145 bucks each, are super easy to keep clean on a car like mine that's everyday transport.

Recommend if you go with them you go to your local Autozone or Pepboys and buy the brake paint caliper kit. I put the new wheels on at christmas after taking off the ugly factory 16" inch ones to reveal some really ugly calipers with years of brake dust caked onto them. So off the wheels went and I painted them to look better. It made a huge difference. Make sure if you do it though you mask off all the rotor and go over ALL the calipers with brake parts cleaner and a scotchbrite pad.

Oh, and if you do decide to go with upgraded wheels, do yourself a favor and get the carbon ceramic low brake dust pads! I have the factory pads on and I have to wipe them off every day to keep them from looking dirty.

thats really cool dude, are those 15" JBL's? Whats the RMS on it :), does your equiptment make the car dim?

How did you paint your grill...been thinking of doing mine lmao...

My setup is the jl1000/1,jl 450/4 and 13w7 ported box.....Its hella loud i kinda want a second one, but fear the electronics gettiing fried on me lol...

JL...nice audio company. Although I swear by MTX Thunder subs. That's what's in the back 2 10" MTX Thunder 5000 Subs. Mine hit so hard I have to be conservative on the bass setting in fear I might blow out the back window lol.

Oh, and to answer your question, I'm running a Kicker 1000 Watt Peak 2 channel amp, and just an orion 300 watt amp for the subs. Seriously, I have friends who own lexuses and mercedes with the upgraded premium audio system. My components, amps, and subs make those sound like you're listening to static on an AM radio.
