Has anyone mounted 18" wheels on their S80?

Hello Tom,
Yes I have them on my 2009 S-80. They were available as an option along with 245/40/18 tires in 2009. I have another set of 18" from an XC-90 that I use for my winter tires. The locating centre hole on the XC-90 wheels is a bit larger diameter than the S-80 wheels so I machined an adaptor. However I did see adaptors on line somewhere but I forget where. If you buy aftermarket wheels make the sure the offset is correct. Also pay as much as you can afford. Cheap $100'ish wheels bend, crack and flex. Please believe me I learned that lesson a couple of times. Although that depends on your driving style. Better to find some used Volvo originals. If they are just for looks and your a calm non-agressive driver then the $100 will do until you hit a pothole. Another good thing is to upgrade to 336mm rotors and calipers if they fit the year of S-80 you have. Good luck.

Thanks for the good info. I am looking at a jaguar 18x8 wheel that were on the jag F type that have the correct lug spacing and offset. The original 17 inch wheels have a few issues due to age, so I am searching options. How is the ride on the 18's and which brand tire do you prefer? Thanks

The Jag wheels should be excellent and look great. As for tires; where i live there are only country 2 lane roads and a lot are not in great condition.
So I buy Continental for a summer tire, not an all season. Winters I buy a Nokian Hakkapeliitta or a Firestone Winterforce II which I find good for the price. I don't like Pirelli winter tires.

check out wheel-size.com to find all the OEM specs for a 2002 S80. The key numbers will be bolt pattern (ie 5x108), 65.1 mm center bore (Volvos use the center bore to center the rims, not the lug bolts) then offset ( the measurement from the hub's vertical plane to the rim's center line). Offset will vary slight with rim width but most FWD cars are in the 40-50 mm range give or take and RWDs are in the 20-25 mm range.

2002 S80s did come with a factory option for 18 inch wheels so that's a good spec to match: 235/40-18 tires running on an 8Jx18 ET49 rim will fit your car.

Note if you are looking to use rims from another car you may need adaptor plates or hub centering rings (not too many rims have a center bore bigger than 65.1mm so if replacements have a smaller CB, then adaptor plates are required. Adaptor plates impact the offset as well meaning they push the rims center line out, decreasing the offset (meaning the tires will be closer to the fender lip and will put more pressure on the bearings (not advised..)

Good info. Thanks. I plan to search out the specs on the center bore for the wheels I'm looking at. The 18's will be summer set up , as I found 235/48/17 nokian studded set virtually no wear for $150. they're going on tomorrow. More snow coming Sunday night. Glad I found this forum. The T6 is a great car.

Hello mt6127. I think tomgiroux will be OK if his research about the Jag wheels is fact [that the Jag wheels have the correct spacing [bolt circle] and off set as he states].
Good point about the adaptors or centering rings. I Tried to address that point in my previous text about using XC-90 wheels on my S-80 by using adaptors that I machined. Via the internet one can find a lot of very good info from wheel manufacturers and persons like Dave Scribner about properly installing, balancing and cleaning wheels and tires before installation. Thanks for your input on this and many other subjects.

one more fun fact - Volvo has pretty much kept the same bolt pattern but transistioned away from the 65.1 mm center bore to a 63.4 mm center starting with the 2005 S40 then updated by platform until 2010 when all were 63.4. As a result, wheels from a 2009 S80 won't work on a 2002 but a 2002 can work on a 2009 with hub centering rings... Back when Volvo was involved with Ford, some of the euro Ford models shared the same wheel hub specs with the Volvos so you'll see people shopping Ford wheels for a swap. That would explain the Jag connection.

More fun facts to crowd the already overloaded mind. That actually is good info to know and try to retain. Regards Peter

That's good to know, I had searched hub centric rings, (65.1/63.5) they're plastic for about $25. Did not know of the center bore variation. I will ask the seller to check the bore. A perfect example of why not to rush into a purchase without researching . Thanks TG

Ebay/Amazon and wheel stores will carry - you may also be able to find them in aluminum.

If the Jag wheels are 63.4mm and the hub on your S-80 is 65.1 then a properly sized set of rings will solve your problem.
Happy driving !

The price on the Nokian tires is super if $150 for all 4 or is that each? I really like Nokian studded or not. The factory installed studs are awsome.

The $150 was for all four! No sign of any wear.! got them installed for $100. Looking at IPD Pegasus replicas as a possibility.
