1999 S-80 Alarm continued

I finally caught thesecurity systemgoing off and know that no-one is touching the car. It was sitting in the drive , no heavy wnds , nothing, and the lights started flashing, It did it three times one night. Any Ideas where to look first? The audible alarm isn't sounding, and it re-sets without incident. Help!

Digging out an old post for a new problem...the same thing is happening to my '99 s80. 5-20 minutes after locking the car the lights will flash for 2-3 minutes then stop...no siren.

Any thoughts?

Bad siren or a Dead battery inside the siren.

I haveheard the siren is about $175 from the dealer, and about $80 installation. If you want to try changing it yourself or fixing it, here isa writeup I did that might help: http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/for...11&t=17479 I was not able to fix mine, so I have a new siren on order that I will install. Then I willsee if it works or if I have to take the car to the dealer for software.

After replacement they can just connect and click a couple of buttons and configures everything. No software needed.

Without trying to hijack the thread, is the audible alarm on this car supposed to be extremely quiet? Mine is no louder than a loud cellphone ringing.. It always been like this since I got the car so I never thought much of it.. but it is true that it is not even 20% of the noise level required to alert someone that someone is messing with the car.. The alarm system itself works fine, just that lack of noise..

Any advice?
thanks

I think car alarms are supose to be ~125db so you might look at getting a new one.

Nope. It should be way loud.

Could be it something to do with the battery for the alarm itself? How much would I be looking at for replacement? I have alarms on all my cars but I'm not the biggest believer in them... eg. If im in class and my alarm goes off, its of no help to me.. but if this isn't too expensive a fix, I can go through with it.

About $255 at the dealer. Less if you do it yourself.

Do you know what part in particular I should be looking at replacing?

The siren module. See this link for a how-to: http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/for...11&t=17479

That also is most likely a faulty siren. :)
