1999 S80 Won't start
Just bought this 1999 car. Fixed 4 codes, with the SRS my only code left. SRS would not do a handshake (communicate) with my scanner. Car ran fine for 2 weeks, then day before yesterday, began to have power loss problems, would not go over 50 mph. Got it home, shut it off, started it once more, then the next morning, was going to put it in my shop, and it cranked but would not start.
Fuel pump was white and fit all the criteria for the 2010 Volvo recall message 220. Installed a new pump. And of course a filter. Tank was clean. CEM and all boards are clean and no corrosion. All fuses under the hood are good, and all on the end of the dash are good. Specifically, #33 is good. No power to fuel pump, and of course it is not working. Swapped relay for fuel pump with climate control. No change. I learned as I research, on line that the fuel pump works for three seconds, then in crank mode. So perhaps if I had a second person to crank, I could have validated the no power to pump fault. New pump... I had ordered a SRS 0 285 001 254, and installed it. My SRS was covered in slurpy goo spills and trash. Read that is not good. Good news with 254 unit, scanner now read it, said all 4 of the crash sensors were bad and the setup wrong. The unit I took out was 0 285 001 256. So I ordered a new unit with the right number. So here is my question. Will the correct 256 SRS make my fuel pump work, or is there another area I need to check? Good info: http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/for...p?f=11&t=39982 |
Too hard of a question
I guess I asked a too hard a question?
So here was my question: Will the correct 0 285 001 256 SRS make my fuel pump work, or is there another area I need to check? |
Not likely. There is no fuel cutoff.
The SRS is programmed to the car though. But you can have it disconnected entirely and the car should start. |
It is fixed.
It was a bad fuel pump. Plus bad fuel pump relay. Car runs, but fuel pump needs removed and level sensor shuffled a bit, only reads 3/4 on full tank. Runs great though.
Still working the SRS on this one. Plus ignition has that worn out lazy spring thing, where after starting, you need to move the key back to turn on lights, radio, and climate... O'Reilleys has to special order the switch, as it is not the plug in type for later 1999 and up, its the old Mercedes looking big pin model. Got one for a 1998 V90, but it had no crank feature. Nice driving car. Clean. Black with dark grey interior. 17" factory option. |
