ISSUE RESOLVED - Contacted Volvo Canada Custormer Care. They reviewed with management who decided to supply necessary part and program to my Volvo Dealer. Completed repair ...Bill $650 Happy to have S80 back on the road.
.
Good Day. Took my S80 to dealer here in Canada as S80 lost turn signals and other items. They ran $150 diagnostic and informed me that Steering Wheel Module (SWM) is damaged. It is not replaceable as no longer made plus used is unique to vehicle. To cap it off, even if not damaged, REPROGRAM no longer available. How many other models will be affected by this?
Have single speed wipers and would like to be able to use turn signals. If not, vehicle is just pile of parts. Sad one part can kill a well maintained vehicle.
Is there any way to bypass SWM to get turn signals working . Could a used SWM be reprogrammed to work?
Thank you for your consideration and help.\

I was thinking about your post last week.
So interesting - there was a time when Volvo was proud of their cars longevity - to stick it to so many cars like this is astounding. Or at least a bit odd.
Also, why would that particular module need to be vehicle specific? I wonder if the dealer meant "model specific". Darn few dealers want to install (let alone hunt for) used parts.
I don't frequent this site but https://repairpal.com/steering-wheel...op-working-828 reports 37 S80 owners so afflicted, many seem to get a temporary respite by replacing fuse 22 -, others with battery disconnecting, so I'm wondering if there might be another code generated sometime in the past that would damage the SWM (SVM?)
Anyay, ebay has some, many indicate multiple years, though early S80 were less than perfect electronically.
But of nterest (to my mind anyway) are these guys (who I neither know or have ever done business with) https://www.g7computers.com/collecti...omputer-repair. Personally, I might drop them an email, maybe even a phone call. Used electronics seem more sketchy than rebuilt parts and rebuilt ABS modules are an established Volvo resource, so I would check them out.
Any way - good luck and please post the resolution - I may need it in a few years!!

Good Day ... Happy my 2000 S80 back on the road. Contacted Volvo Canada Customer Care. They reviewed with management who decided to supply required part and program to my Volvo dealer. Would it have it sent from Volvo in Sweden if necessary. Dealer received part and installation done.
Take care
