2000 S80 T6 Check Brake Light
Tech,
I'm getting a message on the dash saying to check brake light. I checked the brake lights and the one above the rear window is out. The Volvo dealer claims it's unlikely the bulbs are burned out all at once. He said it could be a bad relay. Do you know what it could be and what it would take to check/fix the problem. Everything works fine. Just annoying when this message lights up every time I touch the brakes. Thanks, |

It is a pain to inspect the Light itself. Because it is under the Headliner. You will have to drop the Rear of it down.
Usually they won't all burn out at once. It might be something else. But without the proper equiptment it will be hard to find. |

i also had this same problem when i got my s80 ..message saying check brake lights. so i checked em, same as yours- just the one above the rear window was out. all i did was change the bulb and the message stopped. so its a pretty simple fix :D

I pulled the head liner down and wriggled the wires connecting the light. The light is now working again but I am still getting the message. Should I just replace the bulbs? Or will disconnecting the battery clear the code? I hate to take it to a Volvo mechanic and get charged $100 to reset something or change a bulb.

If it only comes on when you hit the brakes replace the light assembly and it should go out.

I actually just had that problem too. Thought something was up with my brakes then after searching the forum (thank God) and checking again with my old man figured out it was the right side brake light.
