2000 s80 t6 common oil leaks?
are there any common oil leaks on these s80 t6's that anyone knows of? i have an oil leak somewhere on the passenger side by the serpentine and timing belts can smell it and oil is on alternator and then back. Doing a timing belt soon any hints would be appreciated.

Make sure the high pressure line coming out of the power steering pump is tight. Mine was leaking from there and I thought it was the pump itself but turned out to be a the line. see if the reservoir is low too.

i will check that....was also told to check and clean the pcv? it can get clogged up and cause oil leaks.....leak is pretty significant its splashed up on the alternator etc and you can smell it when driving. Hopefully when i do the timing belt i can get a good look down there and see where its coming from.

put a ballon over the dip stick tube after you pull the dipstick if if blows up your oil trap is clogged

Possibly cam seals are leaking too. You'll see that when you get the timing cover off.

thanks.....i'm leaning toward one of the cam seals being bad by the timing belt. will know soon miles well change those while have the belt off just don't want to have to buy the darn cam shaft holder tool
|
looks like the cam shaft seals on the timing belt side are leaking...has anyone had experience changing these and does this engine have the variable timing valves? Basically can i just get the cam shaft lock tool and lock it via the other side of the engine....and then be able to pull the pulleys off to change these cam shaft seals easily? Assuming i mark the pulleys when i do the timing belt it should be easy to change unless this engine has that variable timing.

Not sure about the S80 but the S60 has the VVT on the exhaust cam. If you have the cam locking tool its not that big of a deal to remove the VVT hub. The bolt is pretty tight. I had 1/2" break over bar with a cheater on it. They may have used a thread locking material on the bolt.

Turbo has the VVT on the exhaust side, NA has it on the intake. That center bolt is torqued to about 86ft lbs. (I think... been awhile since I did it.) Not sure of the procedure as I have the NA engine.

so if i have to replace that seal if i lock the other side will be i ok pulling the pulley or is there more to it than that? One of the two cam seals on the passenger side where the timing belt pulleys are is leaking not sure what one yet so i'm going to have to pull atleast one for a new seal.

Ziob34, how did you make out with your cam seals? Saw no write ups after your last post. The reason Im asking is I just spotted oil leaking and pulled the top cover off and found oil on top of head by the intake cam I think. Its the cam closest to the firewall. Thanks
