2001 S80 2.9 Throttle does not work

Story is... i start my car getting ready to go home from work. My coworker and I are outside chit chatting and he mentioned that my car is making a weird idle sound. I pop the hood and notice that the idle sounds normal however I would notice a different tick to it ever 2-3 seconds. The sound resembles flooring a 4 cylinder engine with an aftermarket intake on it... however it only last for a blip of a second and comes back every 2-3 seconds.... like a gulp sound.

Anyways I drive and everything seems normal... im almost near home and i stop at a Red light... everything sounds fine, have my AC on and no rough idle.. the light turns green and i press on the accelerator but the car does not go fast. It goes as the speed of idle! The gas pedal is unresponsive no matter how far i depress it.

I panic and turn on the hazard lights moving my car to the side as quick as my idle speed lets me... luckily no one honked at me.

I park the car and turned off the AC and notice that the car has rough idling now... Turned off the car and turned it on and everything is back to normal... or at least for a little bit. 5 minutes later same thing happens and my accelerator stops working. I dont see CEL however it does say "Engine service urgent"

Is this the classic ETM problem that requires volvo to look at or maybe XeMODeX?

Ive had rare but random issues with the ETM before where it would open to 30% throttle (% on Torque Pro/OBD) and make a bass buzz sound... kind of like when the subwoofer of your audio system gets power and blast only bass...

Thoughts and suggestions welcome. Ive already checked the fuses to see if everything is okay, no CEL,

Yes it does sound like a throttle body issue. Relax, it is not the end of the world. The only method that I've found to get a quality throttle body without issues is to get a reman one from the dealer. The George and Elmer version doesn't work as well as the original. There are plenty of people here that would disagree, only because they've spent money on the George and Elmer version and had issues, but they'd never admit to it.

You cannot go wrong with the Volvo reman unit and the cost has come down significantly.

Do you know how much it cost now?

Also the George and Elmer is the XemodEx? Sorry not too familiar with much of this at the moment lol.

Talk to your local dealer and you should be set for around $700.

700 is definitely cheaper than 1400.

I decided to take it a different route. I purchased a generic DICE and will try to install VIDA to diagnose the car since the nearest Volvo isnt really too near.

Thanks again Tony for the suggestions.

The $700 included the programming charge. Ask the dealer if they will sell you the throttle body wholesale.

Updating the thread..

I went ahead and purchased the DICE module + downloaded a vmware vida.... Finally got it to work and heres what i found.

To fix the ECM-9150 Faulty TP signal can i do the contactless TP sensor mod?

vwynn 10-02-2018 02:39 PM

Update 10-2-18

Welp...
Replaced the TP Sensor with the Sacer contactless sensor and so far the car drives fine.

The delta between the 2 sensors is about .69degrees. so not much difference. The car feels different however.. Upon start up the idle would be around 1000rpm or below for cold start.. and sometimes when im gassing from a standstill itll have a little surge from the beginning before smoothening out.

Also when graphing out the throttle position sensor i always see a dip on the line graph every second when idling.
