Yes - find a manual mirror at your local junkyard. Your UEM, or upper electronic module is glued to the back of the mirror glass and "coded" to your car. The different UEM in the used mirror will not work in your car and you will loose remote functions. So - swap the uem from your old mirror to the new/used one. Take your old mirror apart first (so you can figure out how to get it apart without breaking it). Use a wall paper knife to cut the uem off the old glass. Do the same with the used one and glue (double sided tape or clear silicone works) your uem to the used glass.

I understand the process of transferring the computer element to a new glass. I have a parts yard auto dim mirror, but have no idea as to how to get the glass out of either without damaging the housing. I am willing to try if there is a process that I can use.
But in an effort to simplify things, can I simply replace the auto dim mirror with a manual dim mirror? Will it line up with the same fasteners? Thank you for the warning regarding the remote (which I do not have and do not need).
I am 76 and love to drive my Volvo for pleasure. I am not set on in keeping it perfectly original in this case (possible sacrilidge).

The mirror simply prys (sp) apart, the back cover snaps off - take the old one apart first to learn how to get it apart - in case you damage it getting it apart.
