2001 S80 T6 Oil Leak
 

I was driving down the expressway and the 'No oil pressure' popped on. I pulled over (did not lose any power) and had the car towed home.

There was a fair amount of oil spattered on the accessory belt and when I pulled off the timing belt cover I saw more oil there. Most of the oil under the timing belt cover was towards the front.

The car has 130K miles and had the timing belt (which looks good) replaced around 90K.

Is this a problem with the cam seals? I am surprised at how much oil came out. Anything else I should be looking at?

I finally got around to working on this. I bought a cam locking tool and replaced the cam seals (one was falling out). I also replaced the PCV components with a kit from IPD.

Any last minute checks I should do before firing this sucker up? I haven't had the guts to do it after reading about so many bad experiences with bent valves etc.

Right now the engine cranks by hand fine and feels like it has good compression.

I ended up cranking it a few times by hand, rechecking the timing marks and gave it a go. Car seems to run great. I will take it easy for a little while.

I figure I got really lucky. This car never needed oil in between oil changes (4K-5K miles) and out of the blue gave me a no oil pressure message. When I drained the oil, I only got about 1 and 3/4 quarts. It leaked a lot of oil very fast. I am glad I pulled over immediately.

One of the front cam seals was falling out (non vvt) but the other was in there pretty good. I replaced both just in case. I also replaced most of the PCV components thinking it was probably a clogged PCV system that blew out the seal.

I really wished I had tested for positive crankcase pressure before this happened.
