2001 S80 vs Deer

1 Attachment(s)
I had a run in with a deer several weeks ago. I am toying with the idea of fixing this myself, but am worried I might be missing something. The car still ran and drove ok, and except for a coolant leak, I would have driven it back home.
At this point I know I need LH fender and inner fender, hood, bumper cover, grille, radiator, radiator support, air box, LH headlamp, LH turn signal, and headlamp washer/wipers.
Comments, tips, etc welcome.
Thanks

How fast were you going?

the first question is this, can you do bodywork?

mark458 08-29-2010 11:38 PM

Second question is this, how does grilled deer taste?

By the time I got the car slowed down, and looked in the rear view mirror, he was nowhere to be found. I turned around and drove back and looked but it was gone.
The air bags did not deploy, which I guess is good, in the scheme of things.

I have a friend who can and has promised to help.

thats great you know someone in the auto body repair industry because I wouldnt want you to take on a big job like yours on your own, check around the salvage yards for your parts you need, you will save money as per buying new, also I dont know the color of your car but finding the sheetmetal in your cars color is a big plus, having said this good luck, best regards, beefheart

Think it would be wise to Invest in 2 of those Deer horns/Whistles & either place them behind the grill yourself or have the Dealer do it. I know people who say they don't work but I have had more animals near the road or the side of the road that are 'alerted' and run off then I have had collisions. I put them on my 2008 S80 by removing the grill. I also have them on my Ford Sport Trac truck behind the grill. It took me 1 accident with my rotary powered RX7 to realize that critters need help recognizing that danger is near. JMHO

I don't know if you can see it in the picture, but there were 2 deer whistles on the car at time of impact. After the impact, the right one was still there and might be visible in the picture. Never was able to locate the left one...............
I never used he deer whistles before, and had just put these on a couple of weeks before.

Mounting them on bumpers is Not a good idea because usually they become clogged with bugs or bug debris . If you go through car washes they get knocked off too. Best placement for them are behind the grille. BTW my family used to own a new car dealership we mounted them all the time this way to PREVENT occurrences like yours. http://www.thehomesecuritysuperstore...ice-GAW-p=2282

$6.00 properly placed looks cheap right about now..
