2001 Volvo s80 no throttle response

Hello,

I have 2001 volvo s80 2.9L non-turbo. Today, I was driving a car and suddenly it stopped on middle of the road. When I tried to turn the car on it would not turn on until I hold onto the gas pedal; if I don't hold onto the gas pedal it will not turn on at all. In addition, when I hit the gas the rpm remains at idle even though the gas pedal has been floored.

I do smell a strong scent of un burned fuel when the car is at idle. There is no check engine light on and there are no codes.

Few days ago, I did notice unusual fluctuation on my rpms. when I was cruising on highway, the rpm would suddenly go up and return normal where it was before.

Please help me. I can't seem to figure out what's going on with my car without any codes.

thanks in advance

Thinking its a bad coil possibly

Have you had the fuel pump recall performed yet, a strong sense of smell is a key clue.
This also could be the problem.
What happens is the fuel pump mount cracks or breaks, allowing fuel vapors to escape.
It could maybe also causing a problem with the pump itself - maybe.

I have an 2002 S60 non-turbo doing the same thing. Did you resolve this issue???

Sounds like a bad or dirty MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor. This is a small unit just behind the air filter as the air flows toward the engine. Try cleaning it first (search youtube for instructions). If the trouble persists, replace it. Autozone has two choices, around $100-150. Good luck, hope this fixes it.

Same thinng

Almost seems like mine isn't getting the exhaust out and it's slowing things up. There is a hissing noise. I thought it was coils but they are replaced with no change.

My 2002 S60 ended up being the throttle body. Refer to the S60 forum and read my thread on it.

Hope it helps.
