2002 S80 Twin Turbo Oil Change?

Hi, I have a 2002 S80 with Twin Turbo's.. What Oil should I use? I noticed Full Synthetic is pretty expensive, Can I just get a regular oil change? or Use Synth Blend? Please help, almost 8,000 miles over due...

once again, these threads seem to pop up almost weekly.. just scroll thru the forum you will find tonnes of these...

1. If you can afford to own a turbo, dont cheap out on your oil change, it'll cost you about $35-$40 in oil for some good synthetic, that really isnt that much...

2. Get a damn oil change done already, 8,000 over? You realise all you are doing is sludging up your engine and potentially damaging your turbos...

Most people on the forum will tell you that the turbo models should be 3000-4000mile oil changes, NA can be about 5000 mile or so...

get it done asap and use the search function next time..

What is the opinion about synthetic lasting longer than conventional? I too have an 02 S80 T9. I change the oil (synthetic) every 5000kilometres, which is about 3000 miles. Cna I go farther?

you can if you like, synthetic will easily make 5000miles (~8000km)

It is designed to last longer than conventional oil so if you find that you are changing too often, extend the interval a bit.. if you are really worried about it, you can do a Used Oil Analysis but its normally easy to tell if you need an oil change.. just look at the colour of your oil on the dipstick..

that said, dont go 8,000 miles over like the guy who started the thread..

First of, ppl on here are just trying to find answers to questions, not sassy reply's. As for the oil change, I have a 02 S80 T6, I change the oil every 3k, regardless of color (I use syn blend). Ive done that on my 91 Accord, my 02 Focus and the S80. I take my car to a independent Volvo shop and they say do it ever 3k turbo or not, That goes for any car. Also so you dont run into any turbo prob be sure to let your turbo cool off by allowing the engine to sit and idle for a min after your done driving, if you have been driving the car hard you should let it sit for a several min. This prevents the oil "caking" inside the tubro so you don't run into leaks (It says this in the owners manual). Worked so far for me (knock on wood) and my car has 110k miles on it, no leaks and I drive it like im being chased by the cops. ;D

You might accidentally cause leak on one of vacuum tubings. Especially check the short elbow (one end connected to air intake hose) next to pcv valve
