2002 volvo s80 t6 coolant problem
Over the past couple Months Ive noticed the car using coolant and now its up to about a quart per month.... I have no coolant in the oil... I dont have coolant getting into transmission cooler hoses and I have zero leaks and the exhaust smells fine... no sweet smells.... the only other clue to the coolant loss is a sweet smell(like antifreeze)from the vents... it gets worse when I accelerate and when I turn on the heat.... Ive concluded its a heater core but I need some background... what usually fails????... the heater core itself or a line.... If Im completely wrong please help!!!!

The heater core itself.

Thanks much... looks like I can pick one up new for about 50bucks on rockauto.... any special tricks I should know to get it out efficiently?

there are vids on Youtube. Assuming its similar to the 850/V70s, te process is to remove the panels under the dash and under the glovebox, then remove the side panels on the center console. You will need to drain the radiator or pinch the feed hoses then place a trash bag under the heater core to capture the coolant remaining in the core. You will find a few torx screws so the vids can give you the size tools you'll need. the core should then rotate and slide out to the passenger side (you' be working from the drivers side). PS - best to post these questions on the model specific forum. The forum issues board is for just that - problems with the forum itself.
