2004 s80 t6
 

I'm looking at buying a used '04 S80 T6. It's got 91k miles, and just had the front struts replaced. Mechanic said the car looked great otherwise, said the timing belt wouldn't need to be changed till 115,000 miles (which I have doubts about). Other than that, everything checked out. So I guess I'm looking for some advice. I'm pretty well set on the car but could use some guidance from Volvo experts, as I am not.

Second part: how do I keep this thing pristine? I want this baby to run for a trillion miles... help me make that happen! Thanks!

Timing belt is due at 105,000. If it were me, i would do that now. Changing the fluids in time: engine, tranny. Since its a turbo let it warm up when you first start it in the morning and let it stand for 2 minutes after driving it for the turbos to settle down. ;-)

That's my plan. If timing works out, I'll have time off over Christmas coming up, perfect time to replace the belt. Other than getting that out of the way and babying the turbo, anything else you recommend?

About tranny fluid: I've heard from mechanic friends that unless I know explicitly that it's been done consistently on this car, that it's usually a bad idea to change fluid on a used car as the sediment left over from not changing it sooner can really gum up the works.

In the workshop manual I bought, it says timing belt should be changed sooner if the car was a daily driver that was drivin in a lot of stop and go traffic. I would do it now. Instead of changing the tranny fluid, get it flushed, and not by a jiffy lube moron. By a volvo specialist. The good thing is you are looking at a 04-06 model, where the tranny problems have been figured out. +1 on what gabyman said

Alright so my to-do list:

1) change the timing belt ASAP
2) flush tranny fluid by Volvo guy

Yeah i forgot to mention that about the tranny fluid. If u know if it hasnt been change DONT change it. Inspect the fluid is it reddish or close from brown to black? If its reddish leave it like that for now. Probably it was service recently but if it looks black just leave it like that.
