2005 s80 T6 Premier Problems Please Help!!
 

I have a 2005 Volvo s80 T6 Premier 100% loaded with all the uneccessary features. I bought this car used from Momentum BMW and had a full inspection done on it, they said it was fine. 2 Weeks later I noticed a loud click noise when I change gears so I took it in and turns out the CV Joints are bad, so I had them replaced. About a month later I accidentally hit a small bump on the road and took it in for a rotation turns out the rim bent. So I had it replaced and Aligned. The alignment didn't lock the first time so I had it done again. The car being low as is I never go over speed bumps more than 5mph, I went over the bump like usual, the car bottomed out the front end on the corner. Backing out of my driveway that same day put the car into reverse and a very loud crack sounded, the stabilizer link literally exploded and i had O-rings, metal rings, and springs covered in grease all over the place. Took the car in yet again they replaced both of the front stabilizer links and turns out the accelerometer was bad which would explain why a 15mph turn felt like a 1G turn. All that replaced along with another alignment because this problematic nightmare continues to pull to the right very hard. Now I noticed today in the parking lot of target when i change gears its doing the loud clicking noise again. So I'm wondering if my car managed to eat through yet another set of CV Joints? And if anyone else can explain when I turn my wheel to the Right and lightly break the front left wheel well whistles and makes a loud hissing sound? Take it to a dealer?

Any help would really be appreciated you guys, this car was the biggest waste of 18,000 I have ever made in my life this is the worst car I have ever owned and will never buy a volvo again.

Overall, the 2004-2006 editions are actually better than the 1999-2003s, but it sounds like you have an unlucky one there. I don't know the origin of the hissing wheel well, but hope things improve for you, man.

I can understand your frustration, but as I see it you bought a used car with no knowledge of the prior history at a lot that may not (or may) know alot about the brand. I see no mention of you taking the car to a Volvo dealer/mechanic for a thorough check prior to purchaseing it. And now all Volvo's are POS.

You say you hit a small bump and bent a rim. Hmmmmmm. I say the bump had nothing to do with the bent rim.(My younger son hit a large pot hole going in excess of 90mph. Destroyed the tire. Rim undamaged.That's common as the tire absorbs the impact forces).

Were I a betting man I would put my money down on the idea that this car has sustained damage to the front end BEFORE you ever saw it. If the body is clean, and I suspect it is because the BMW dealer wouldn't be likely to sell a 5 year old car with body damage, then a curb at speed is the most likely culprit. Combined with non-OEM parts and other cost cutting repairs but a second rate wrench.

Take it to a dealer and get a good diagnosis of what it needs. Good luck.

Took it in today to my friends dads shop who has been working with Volvo's since 1983 and he checked it out and right off the bat hated the s80 because of how many problems they have but check out the noise and told me the CV joints were yet again destroyed but good news was that they're under warranty so it's a free fix :D

And I have taken it to a dealer before Star Motors (Houston) and had it looked at because the airbag light was on and it wouldn't go away so they ripped up the upholstery and it turns out the Volvo iPod Integration thing was screwing it all up so they had to remove that then replace the airbag moduel which was luckily under warranty by 1 day otherwise it would have been $810 for the module. They cleared the light and he also hooked it up to their super special computer which they usually charge 112$ to hook it up and it didn't give any errors so I guess that means it was working fine?

And it turns out I need Pads and Rotors for the Rear NOW and the front ones in 6000miles :/, also one more question if anyone knows my friends dad said if i'm changing oil every 5000miles then synthetic blend is fine for it, but if it's 7500miles then I need full synthetic? Which should I do because I've read that Turbocharged/Supercharged Cars HAVE TO HAVE SYNTHETIC OIL?

I am with donf that new CV joints don't just go bad quickly unless something is wrong with the car - that should be a pretty durable part. Did you not ask the Volvo mechanics how it could fail so quickly? Something is unusual with that car...

you said the car pulls to one side even after an aliment. which would leave me to believe that there is something up with your suspension like camber, caster, est. and with that out aliment would lead to the eating of the cv joints.

Pads and Rotors are a wear part and something that should have been checked when buying the car.

As for synthetic, if the car has be run with synthetic up to this point, you should stick to it. Synthetic is recommended for these cars. If it has been ran with dino or a blend stick with that and the slightly more frequent oil changes.

Woohoo Got an update after my Second CV Replacement Turns out the first pair were faulty from the factory and now since it started clicking again whenever i change gears my mechanic told me that the smaller part of the front axle connects to the transmission and instead of staying straight and firm its loose and is clicking around and said it was a design flaw and is sending me to a foreign transmission specialist to find out what needs to be done this time.

No, you just bought one that is in poor condition and are liberally applying your one-time experience as a generalization.

Turns out my Upper Rear Engine Mount is destroyed and needs to be replaced along with the Transmission place to rip out my Axle and Transmission to see if its the Hub bearings, Output Shaft Bearings, to see if the Spline something is stripped and to see if its the entire front axle itself.

They weren't able to give me a price because it could have been multiple things and they don't want to quote me something that could vary from multiple issues does anyone have an idea how much some of these would cost?

You said that you know your friends dads shop who has been working with Volvo's since 1983. Do you know where it is located so ican show mine too. thanks a lot

Ya it's called Westside Automotive on Dairy Ashford Road the guys name is Wayne and another guy I really trust is Star Motors down I-10 the Volvo Service guy named John I can promise you that he will not screw you in any way shape or form and he will work with you and do what you would like done and he's not some idiot who wants to start charging you for every type of diagnostic they do like most dealers. He only charges you for what needs to be done and what he has done nothing more. I'm going back to him sometime soon cuz i need rear pads.

ya saw the website..looks good. well mine is "new" with no problems soo far and i think i do trust momemtum volvo but i will keep in mind if theres a problem. Or i was thinking maybe i will drop by. thanks a lot tho
