80S transmittion fluid change

Who makes the Volvo transmission for the 80S? The forum shows GM or Chevy,
I thought it was Getrag of Germany. I believe the Pontiac Fiero transmission had a Getrag design but built in Muncie, Indiana by GM.
Please advise, a lot of beer rests on this.

My dealer says they do not change trans fluid in the newer 80 S, but if they did they have to pull the engine. Lots of bucks.
I'm getting a trans flush as you point out- because it's better to spend on maintenance than replacement.
Thanks for the great advice.
Vince

RE: 80S transmittion fluid change

Yes the tranny is Made by GM also used in the Caddy.
They can drop the pan just like most other car company's.
Or it can be flushed.
I think the flush is better.

RE: 80S transmittion fluid change

Does it apply to the 2005 S80 series as well. I have been told the transmission is not made by GM but in Germany by Getrag and the pan can not be dropped, with pulling the engine.
What do you think. We trust you at a distance more than some dealers up close. I'll try to order a manual. Thanks for the advise, Vince

TECH, I don't believe that Getrag makes an automatic.
