99 s80 oil trap/pcv problem

I have a 99 s80 with 180k miles that is burning/leaking 1qt for every 2k miles. Took it to the dealer and they inspected the plugs and then proceeded to deliver me the bad news...they said the engine is done. The reason they gave was oil in the spark plugs. I'm wondering if this can really be true considering the cars runs great. I followed a thread somewhere else in this forum regarding a plugged pcv system and tried to diagnose it myself. It seems that air is being pushed out of the crankcase when i remove the oil cap or dipstick. It's not a lot, just enough to barely inflate a small plastic bag. Also, it's smoking a bit from the dipstick. My question is does this sounds like a bad oil trap/hose/o-ring and if so, is this job on a '99 any worse than for later models? i've seen a rundown on performing this repair for a '01 where a special wrench needed to be made.

thanks in advance.

Yes, it could be the oil trap. I'd try cleaning that first before putting in a new engine. You have to take the intake manifold off. It's a pain in the ass, but can be done (I did it in my driveway). Buy new seals at the dealership, they're just a couple of bucks.

You might also try auto RX. I have had some improvement on high milage cars with their product. In any even making usre you have a functioning PCV system is a first step in the auto RX treatment of oil consumption/leaks

Have you ever had the PCV serivice done for your car in its lifetime.

the pcv has never been serviced. The underside of the oil cap looks pretty gunked up also.

thanks.

Not yet serviced PCV only 97k and it is part of the 105k service. Aways used full syn oil so lower chance of sludge, reg oil changes and auto RX (removes sludge slowly). No leaks at all no smoke no signs of trouble.
