99 S80 Ticking Noise and PSF
My apologies if this is redundant, but I've been unable to find the answers. I have a 99 S80 with 67k miles. About 3 months ago, my engine started making a ticking noise. It occurs when the car is in park or idling. It's not constant. I've had an oil change with full synthetic, and there isn't any leakage.
Also, since November 2018 I've gone through 1 1/2 cans of Pentosin CHF 11S power steering fluid. This seems like a lot to me. Any advice and words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. |
The ticking noise sounds typical of a stuck lifter. You can try an oil treatment like Seafoam to see if that cleans it out. Any other symptoms like an occasional low oil pressure light at idle? If so you may need to drop the oil pan to inspect the pickup and possibly refresh the pump seals.
As to the power steering fluid - you shouldn't need to add ANY fluid so there's a leak somewhere. You'll need to go under the car and remove the shroud to look to see if its hoses or the steering rack seals. |
Thank you so much for your advice! :)
