99 T6 Brake Issues

Hello all.

Mom's S80 has been sitting in the garage a few weeks now due to some brake issues. She got a "Brake Failure Service Urgent" message and has parked it until it can be cleared up. I've done a bit of reading on the message and tried a few things to no avail thus far; looking for some help.

The big, expensive repair has been done. We got a rebuilt ABS module from FCPGroton.com (Vic Rocha said that this one could not be rebuilt); I put that on last night and found the message still there.

The big problem now is that I found during a test drive that the brakes do not noticeably engage until the pedal is about an inch from the floor. I added some fluid and bled at the calipers this morning. During the bleeding it seemed like there was progress being made but on firing it up the pedal went right back to the floor. Having seen it while it was out I know that the entire module/pump/bracket assembly had to be removed due to the screws stripping off. As hard lines were removed I'm sure there is quite a bit of air in the system around here.

So, long story short, here are some things I want to check:
  1. Is the ABS module correct? The part that came out orginally was 8619538. The part from FCP is 8619545. From their site it seems to be either an equivalent or an update.
  2. Is there somewhere to bleed the hardware for the ABS? Something tells me normal bleeding will not address this area.
  3. Could the issue be fixed and the message just be a "stored code" that needs only to be cleared?
  4. Is there a next step or something that I am overlooking? I am not incapable when it comes to fixing cars but this particular one makes my head spin.

If I am light on details somewhere along the line I apologize. It's quite late and been a long day of fighting without progress. Let me know and I will fill in as best I can. Thanks to anyone who can help!
