About to buy, need help

Hi everone, im glad i found this forum, I'm about to buy my very 1st Volvo, if everything goes well i should be getting it this week.

I have looked for a long time and finally found a deal (i think) i'm going to see it tomorrow. I did see a few already but none as promising as this one.

Its a very clean 2002 Volvo S80 T6 with only 142000km (88200miles). Owned by an elderly man. (about 3500$) it seem to be a good price.

All regular maintenance has been done but i don't know yet if any bigger maintenance have been done. Im looking for tips/what to look for in buying this Volvo. What are the bigger maintenance that should have been done to this car with that many km and age.

Any expenses to plan in the near future?

A little background on me : I wont use the car much, i have a truck for work, and a C5 z06 corvette when i want to have fun, the S80 will mostly be a grocery getter and winter car, but i plan on doing a 2200km (1370miles) trip every year to go see my family. I don't think il do more then about 5000-6000km (3100-3700miles) a year. I don't drive fast or aggressively on the roads, i baby my cars most of the time, except the corvette when i hit the track!

Thank you very much from a new member!

welcome to the club. Any options on the car? like gps or rear parking sensors, etc. Also once you get the car do post them here :

That should be nothing for that car. The motors are built to last 500,000 miles if you service them right. Use Volvo or equilavant oil filters, change the oil once per year or every 5,000 miles. The thing about it is, you'll enjoy driving it so much that you'll find yourself finding reasons to drive it more and more.

Hope it works out for you.

Oh, the timing belt is likely due a change. It's likely every 105,000 miles or 10 years. Check the manual and maintenance records.

Thanks for the replies, i went to see the S80 and i must say, oh boy what a mess! The paint was terrible, cheap repaint over old paint, scratch everywhere, it was actually a young guy selling the car, said it was his grandfathers, but then his other brother told me that he didn't know who the car was before his brother bought it. Still had winter tires that were completely finished on it, mirrors were not the same color as the car, missing tons of stuff.... i didn't even bother trying it, the odometer was probably reminded a couple tenth of thousand km.

But nothing happens for nothing, today a new add showed up for a S80 T6 with even less km (131000km)(81000miles) on it, 1 owner, and full maintenance records, but its a 2001 instead of a 2002. Owner looks like a businessman. Lets see how this goes.

Yes im sure, but is it worth paying 8-10k instead of 3k? I'm still shopping for the car.
