Airbag Warning Message
 

Just out of the blue, I got a message on the dash "SRS-AIRBAG SERVICE URGENT". Is this common, does it really need to go to Volvo to have them check it out and clear the code?

I had the same message 9 months ago. I cleared the message with my scan tool and it has not came back. I would clear it first.

my scan tool wont clear it. what brand name/model do you use?

Genesis tech force. I think the smart chip # was either 3306-29 or 3306-32

What year is your Volvo? I think the SRS system is covered by Volvo for 5 years/unlimited mileage.

Just days ago I also started to experience the "SRS airbag service urgent" message along with "anti-skid service". Took it to the dealership and was told that two devices on the low speed sensor network were faulty (CD changer and Radio display). Cost to repair is $1600 for parts + labor. No thanks. Taking those two items off the network was not an option. They tell me that by taking them off the network that the airbag sensor and all the other items on the low speed sensor network may not work correctly. Huh?!?! Why in the world would a CD changer have ANYTHING to do with the data/network for the airbag? Sounds like either a very poor design or hogwash info from the dealership.

I'm interested in any other comments from the OP or others regarding more info on this topic.

i disconnected the cd changer 5 years ago so i can plug in the iPod interface. i really dont think that would trigger the Airbag message to come on. i think its a marketing thing Volvo does to freak people out so they can spend some money at Volvo.
