Ait Intake
Hi all, here's my question:
I know with a lot of smaller cars, removing the factory air box and hosing and replacing with a cold air kit and cone filter usually increases CFM and therefore horsepower. So I was wondering, if I buy one of the universal cold air kits, and make it fit myself, would this increase or decrease the horsepower of my 1999 S80 T6? Also, would I run into any trouble with the funny looking 02 sensor that Volvo seems to have in there intake, which is more rectangular/oval? Thanks a lot for any help. |
Basically, does the stock air box provide more air than a cold air pipe kit with cone filter I would put in?

It might provide more, but these cars have a pretty sizeable airbox and air filter.. so I dont think it would be as much of a restriction as compared to my Honda's airbox and filter...
Also, the biggest problem you would see if you put a cone style filter under the hood would probably be heat soak.. These engines tend to produce a LOT of heat and some of it will inevitably end up being taken with your intake air... If you really want colder air to the airbox, fabricate a ram air setup similar to IPD's on the s60.. You will need some accordian hose, a good placement location, maybe near the foglights, and to cut a hole in the stock airbox.. I don't really see it being worth it on this car |
