Any happy 99 S80 owners

Hello,

Seems like most of the stuff I read about 99 S80's are negative stuff. I have talked to a private volvo machnic and he says that not all 99 S80's are bad. He said that some turn out really bad, some kind of bad and some turn out to be really good. I met a guy at the volvo shop and he has a 99 S80 with 140K miles and he says he has had no problems at all except he had to replace the ETM once with was covered under the 10 year 200K mile warrenty. I bought my 99 S80 2.9 last october with 80K miles for $8,600. The guy who sold it to me said that he had no problems at all with the car as long as he owned it till 80K miles. He said that he changed the oil every 3500 miles so he did take care of it. But just two days after I bought the car the ETM went bad, but I did get all my money back under the 10 year 200K miles warrenty. A month after that I had to get something called the ECM replaced which cost me almost $800. But since then I had no problems at all with the car except for the fact that I had to get my front sway bar links replaced. I recently went on a 1200 mi road trip in it and drove at the speed of 80-85 mph most of the time and it ran beatifully with no problems. So im just hoping that mine is one of the good ones.

I recently bought a 99 T6. After about 2 days check engine light went on luckly it was the Throttle body which was a free fix at the dealership. Other than that i love the car. Also mine has 185 000 KMS yet engine still runs like new and tranny shifts like a dream and everything else on the car works

Funny, have you ever noticed that these auto forums are generally opulated by people who B*TCH about how they got a bad car?

My dad owned one of the very first in the US 1999 S80s, other than light bulbs that burnt out frquesntly he droive it for like 125k miles, then traded it...so it really depends on who owned it beofre and how they took care of it. Recognize, this was the first year they were out so gotta expect a few glitches, but engine and trans are pretty the same through 2005 as they were in 99.

I have an 02 S80 T6, and I did have some turbo control spring replaced under warranty, a couple of software updates, none htat ever left me stranded. The car is comfy, fast, decent on fuel and safe for my kids to ride in. Enjoy.

I think your ECM would also be under the extended warranty from Volvo.

I have a 99 S80 2.9. I have had O2 sensor failure, dirty throttle body, bad ABS/STC module, ignition switch, window regulator, door handle rod, transmission skipping, and some suspension problems. Some cars cost more to own. It's the risk of buying a Gen. 1 car of any type. The first year a car comes out the company has to feel its way around the car in the long term. Most problems are never seen until a few dozen thousand miles down the road, to be quite literal. The Volvo S80 still remains to be one of the most, if not the cream of the crop of safest cars on the road. I guess that's the sacrifice. You can buy a honda civic with no thought of any problems but will it save you in a serious car accident? Not like an S80 will. I have no complaints...only that its too much for a high school student such as myself to own. With a career and kids, this car is a dream to own.

Hey I heard that the ECM is under the 10 year 200K mile warrenty. I had mine replaced at 82K miles last November and spent almost $800 for my 99 S80 2.9. I got my ETM replaced at 80K miles and spent about $900 but later got my money back under the 10 year 200K miles warenty. I would like to know if anyone who had there ECM replaced and got there money back.

The ETM warrenty was extended to 10 years 200k miles for the ETM. If you had your ETM done and if you paid for it, then i would suggest that you go to the dealership where you got it back and they will refund your mony back. I spent close to $900 for my ETM replacement last October and Volvo corporation refunded me the mony last December.

My daughter has a 99 S80 T6 and has had quite a bit of trouble with it. The Volvo dealer has fixed most everything with minimal charge to her. Every time he does not charge her, she bakes him a batch of cookies. Even though she has had problems, she loves that car. It's quite a bit of car for the money and it would cost her more than three times what she could sell if for to get something comparable. I think she likes the fact that she has a car that is most likely faster than mine too. It is a really nice car and great for long road trips. Her husband has a BMW 330?? and they would keep the Volvo over the BMW when they decide to get an SUV or something.

Okay maybe I am little confused. Is this a warranty for just for the part or for the whole car? I bought my at car max and the warranty price they wanted to charge was outrageous. Where can I get a good full warranty

No it is only for the ETM throttle body. I dont know if you have had the problem yet but if you do, it will be done for free. If you already had have the problem, you should keep your recipt because you should get your money back.
