brake failure....

Once again, I was reversing held down the brake, for 20 seconds or so, The ABS and STC light came on, and the message ABS System brake failure came up... I dont get this, fluid is fine, brakes are good - 12-15k miles of life left on them... What could this possibly be?

ABS Module? Maybe

RE: brake failure....

ouch......that sounds expensive... Where is the ABS module located? and is it expensive?

RE: brake failure....

It is located on the bottom of the ABS setup. It is a black box with 2 plugs going to it.
You can have it rebuilt for about $150.00 or cheaper.

ok, just incase its not the ABS system, could it be something else? If it were failing, wouldnt the STC light and ABS light stay on?

tech 04-29-2006 01:54 PM

RE: brake failure....

That is all tied to the ABS module.
Most of the time if there is a failure in the hydrolic system only the BRAKE light will come on like if you were low on fluid.

RE: brake failure....

1.) interesting note, I slammed on breaks from 30mph-0(I wanted to really test it- Great stopping power), and it came on, does that change anything?

2.) Also, could the thumping of my 1000watt stereo cause problems, maybe the vibrations could be doing something? Is there anything in the trunk that could be doing?

3.) The wires that are tucked on the sides of the car, near the seats(on each side) are there any wires that i may have spliced into?......I highly doubt the tweeter company installers could have done that?

4.) Sometimes this ABS light and STC light come on at idle or during a slow breaking, or a hard breaking, its kinda intermittent........but sometimes not....Could possibly one of the brakes not be malfunctioning in the Clamping down or something?

On a side note sometimes I hear a Beeeeeeeep noise in the back area of the car....

RE: brake failure....

I think you might have an ABS module going bad.

None of the Above should make the light come on.

ok, I hope i can get volvo to cover it under warranty....its gonna be tough, but maybe if i B**** enough ill get my way.....threaten with a Volvo headquarters call lol...

RE: brake failure....

If you are still under warranty it shouldn't be that bad.
There should be codes in the system.

RE: brake failure....

Im so not under warranty,

Since I bought the car used, I've been to Volvo on an average of twice per month, recently I have had to pay for stuff, but i'll see if I can get them too......hahaha when you use to work at volvo, did you have any tricks that you saw customers use?

RE: brake failure....

turned out, they said the battery voltage was too low, and that it was charging intermittantly.....So they replaced the battery, for 107$, 72$ to pull the codes...

the codes they pulled was a 0074.

I must have been pulling to much power with my system hahah.. Interesting though the Brake, ABS, and STC trlights flicker on and off because of that..

Keep an Eye you might have a Voltage regulator going bad.
