Continental tires (or tyres)
 

Last week as i was in a line of cars making use of the high speed functionality of one of the 1 lane toll lanes here in Dallas/Ft Worth Toll roads several of os met a large piece of something akin to angle iron in rapid succession.
Point # 1 - S80's are very stable at 80+ MPH after having a hole that could pass a tennis ball appear on a left rear tire, and a chunk of tread taken off the front left. Lot of noise though.
Point #2 - I have driven on Michelins for very many years, great tires. But a neighbor suggested I try Continental TrueContacts. He had them on his S60. A test driveconfirmed his statement that they were significantly quieter. Been driving around all today and I can now say that they really are noticeably quieter. Maybe not as "tight" feeling as the Michelins, but the S80 is not a sports car and I think I actually like the smoother feel in the steering wheel. Small pavement cracks and shallow (1-2 inch) pot holes seem less jarring too.
Discount Tire only has a 13 dollar a tire differential on them so it's not much of a money saver.
