coolant sensor

I am new to the forum and volvo ownership. I just bought a used 2000 s80 T6 with 56000 miles, I am having trouble with my coolant sensor but after reading this forum i am wondering if it could be the computer becasue it is telling me that there is no coolant when there is plenty and saying that the alarm system needs to be serviced. Also does anyone know any good honest volvo mechanics in Tampa FL.
P.S. should i buy the extended warranty while i still hafve a chance?

RE: coolant sensor

I bought a 2000 S80 about 7 months ago, and I"m very pleased. I had some software issues where my turn signals and the readout on the dash was not working. They reloaded all the software, engine included for 80 dollars. I just got a letter from Volvo a couple weeks ago saying that they will do software upgrades for the engine for free! Call a dealership to get some details on that.

As for the issues your experiencing, I've not ran into those, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are just software problems.

Good Luck!

Most likely the Coolant bottle sensor is coming apart. They do that sometimes.

The Alarm message is usually a Bad Alarm siren.

I think the sensor is like $30.00 but don't quote me on it.

If i were you, I might invest in that warranty,

1 reason is that I noticed that from 45k-58k, All kinds of leaks and sensors were replaced, struts, etc etc, after the major tune up(around 58k -600$), Now its running great and strong...

does it only do it when it's cool? The reading will change as the vehicle heats up.

That sounds like a continuity problem with the sensor. A short somewhere and when you jiggle it, contact is made briefly before it returns to it's previous state.

The sensor is inserted in the plastic and then sealer is put in to hold it.

The sealer falls apart then the wires and sensor slide out causing the light to come on. If it falls out to many times it will go bad all together.

Replace the Sensor.
