Difficulties with key

Hi to all...thanks for taking the time to read this post.
I have a 2007 S80. It's a lovely big wagon and I can't really fault it. My only gripe is that my key is 'hit and miss' when it comes to opening the car remotely. The unlock button needs to be pressed multiple times before it gets round to opening the car. There is obviously some kind of short within the unlock button on the key itself as my lock button is fine and my wife's key works fine. Is there any way of getting the key reconditioned, or getting the lock button 'short' fixed?
Other than this it means buying a new key, which I know will cost a couple of hundred quid, which will be the dealers suggestion.
I hope someone can shed some light on this for me.
Thanks

First change the battery in the remote opener. If that does not improve function, then you may be able to separate the key part from the remote opener part. There is a screw inside the battery compartment which probably allows them to be separated.

Once separated you may be able to blast "contact cleaner" into the button area and restore function if the fault is dirt or corrosion preventing electrical contact. Definitely do NOT use WD40 or any other product but one labeled contact cleaner, but note that even some types of contact cleaner could cause damage. Personally the risk is one I would take, but that it up to you.

The fault is almost certainly not a "short circuit" but rather a high resistance in what is supposed to be low resistance contact when a button is pressed.
