Default DIY : removing the light assembly from side mirrors

So here it is guys: I understand that you have to remove the glass but actually you dont have to at all.
well mine is a 2006 model year but m sure that it also applies to older models too. But not sure about the new models.
just one warning : BE CAREFUL WHEN TRYING TO PUSH ON THE CLIP (step 4). Once its broken it is broken.

Here are some more steps
Once the bulb is changed just push the assembly back into the hole until you hear a click...DONE AND DONE!

Also note that...while pushing on the clip be very careful not to break them because once the clip is broken THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY WILL WILL NOT BE ATTACHED AND THEREFORE WILL NOT CLOSE..and so the unit will left hanging and you will have to order a new one. Unless you try to glue it ..but too much work..so BE GENTLE AND CAREFUL WITH PUSHING ON THE CLIPS.

Any idea where one can get a replacement light holder / lens without going back to a Volvo dealer? I Googled the part number to no avail and looked at Volvo parts web sites and they don't even list the light assemblies for the side mirrors.

Dealer only part, otherwise luck of the draw to find one used, but doubtful because most people will just sell the entire mirror assembly without removing pieces of it.

I just replaced one of mine because to I broke it (funny it was about a week before this thread opened).

You can try to contact Erie Vovo, they are a Volvo dismantler not far from where I live (Rome, NY) and if they have a car that was totaled and the mirror housing was damaged, they might be able to get you one.

The clip is broken. I came back to my V70R after work and the light assembly was hanging by the wires. No damage to the mirror assembly so I don't know why/how the clip broke. Maybe someone was trying to replace theirs with mine?

Thanks for the post about how to change the assembly.

oohhh nooo..that sucks mnn..well if its hanging what u can do is get a super glue and put it around the assembly and put it back into the mirror and some duct tape to hold into place. can remove the duct tape later on. But i find that is much better than buying one...

Great DIY! So, I pulled the bulbs out of the fixture, and there is no serial or type on it (just 12V 11w).. Looking around it appears that the 7440 will fit this fixture and wattage. Is anyone else using another type of bulb (clear or 6000K white)? Thanks in advance!

7440??? no way. thats too big. Its actually T10 type or 194. Same as your rear door bulbs ( 2006 model year at least) or front side marker and/or side turn signals.
I installed LEDs. much cooler. just search for T10 led on ebay or amazon..

Hi,

On my Volvo S80 2002 these lamps are installed, but do not work.

Should I activate them somehow?

Thank you.
