Emission System Maintenance Message

I own a 2000 T6 and have been experiencing a bad hesitation in my car. It's like it's only firing on 5 pistons rather than all 6. When I accelerate more aggressively the car hesitates, the check engine light starts flashing, and the message "Emission System Maintenance Required" displays in the message window. I have disconnected the battery once as I have heard that that will clear the computer codes. It cleared my message and the car seemed to run okay, at least for awhile anyway. The same things started happening after driving 5 miles. Has anyone experienced this problem and what was the resolution. My first thoughts are either a bad spark plug bc of the misfiring however since it is emission related I thought it might be an oxygen sensor. I am 4 hours from the nearest dealership so any ideas before I have to do that would be great. Thanks

RE: Emission System Maintenance Message

I would check your coil packs. The plastic cracks then they missfire. You will have to remove the plastic pipes for the turbo's and the front rubber hose. Then remove the I believe 7 torx 30 screws then remove the cover.Next remove the 10mm screws holding the coil packs in.Remove the coil packs pull down the rubber boot on the under side.If you see any cracks in the coils they should be replaced.
Hope this helps.
