Engine Whine (Should I worry?)

Hey all,

I just picked up a 2009 S80 T6 AWD with 59k miles.

I like the car, but I noticed an engine (transmission?) whine that concerns me.

I recorded a video of it for reference:

I have had only Saabs for over a decade, so I am not as mechanically familiar with these cars.

Is this normal? Should I be worried?

I had the car checked out by an indy Volvo/Saab mechanic I know before I bought it, and he said nothing about it. I have 2 months of Warranty from the dealer, I'm hoping this is nothing, or that at least they will take care of it.

Please listen to the sound in the video and let me know what you think!

For what it's worth, I think it comes through A LITTLE louder in the video than in real life. Inside the car with the windows closed it's not easy to hear, but with windows open (and no radio) it is very audible through the windows when starting to move from standstill.

I'd really appreciate feedback from this forums expertise!

Thanks,
Matt

mattlach:

When mechanics do not under stand the problem and car is running fine, they simply say its normal. But actually it is not normal. You should find some more responsible mechanic.

I have same year, same model, different engine, about the same mileage.

Similar sound before my alternator went out -

Thank you for the suggestion! I will have this checked out.
