excessive smoke
Finally got this S80 running, but excessive white sweet smelling smoke plumes from it, I put on new headgasket,,did I screw it up? Could this be something other then a headgasket issue? 2000 s80 2.9l

Might be your valve seals. Have you noticed any coolant leaks when the car is parked? You also might want to redo the head gasket, that is what usually causes that problem.
|
how long have you let it run ??? could be coolant trapped in exhaust etc... will probably take a little while for it to "burn off"... if it"s still occurring after about an hour ... you probably have a problem..

20 min I let it run, and the smoke just got worse. I just called a shop, he said the motors on the s80 are famous for dying.$380 dollars for a valve job and resurfacing, cause I'm sure I bent some valves playing with the timing belt.

You would notice a significantly ill running engine if you had bent valves. If you just recently replaced the head gasket, you probably still have a load of gunk in the exhaust that needs to be cleared out.
Seems that what you smell is coolant. Only a leaking head gasket or head/block crack can allow coolant into the combustion circuit. Pull the plugs and check for wet plugs and pressure check the cooling system to see what's happening. No wet plugs? Take it out for a spin if the engine seems to run as it should. Ed |
It does have a vibration to it, I havent checked the plugs yet but will, Finally able to put the 850 in the garage, hated having it out in the elements lol, I'm beginning to think of trading in the S80 for another 850 or even 960, they seem way more reliable then the 99-02 S80
