Exhaust

I just had one question, i thought this weekend i would weld together some pipe and put it in place of where my mufflers had been. Would running straight pipes throw any codes, and or make my engine run bad?

straight pipes from the cat back that is

No codes for cat back.

The only way to get the code is if for some reason your welds leaked.....

abflip567 03-26-2009 03:35 PM

but if there was for some reason a leak, a code would be thrown?

Not quite sure how a code would come up since it is only going through a muffler and nothing else, but just wondering.

O2 sensors are very sensitive.
Ex: ECM-4201 is stored if the ECM registers that the rear heated oxygen sensor is switching too quickly. which can be from an air leak in the exhaust.

You should be fine...post up once your done.

BTW...are you turbo'd are NA?
NAs need some backpressure, which a cat should provide enough.

i am NA, and ill post some pics up of the undercarriage, i want it to look stock but sound louder than it does now.

TIPSP 03-26-2009 04:27 PM

Oh...it will be loud. Turbos muffle the sounds a lot more than NAs. Did you take off the resinator and drive around to see how loud it is? You could staright will just the rear muffler removed?

Here is my dads BMW 540i with no rear muffler/ stock resinator and bullet cats:

i was planning on taking out everything except the cat. but i will take out the rear muffler and see how it sounds, and then take out the front muffler if thats not loud enough for me. but we'll see this weekend. i will let you know. and the BMW sounds pretty good.

Thanks...

Yeah. NAs get loud fast....

Good luck!
