This god&^% car

Started the car today and it ran very rough and would not idle. It was almost like when my MAF sensor went bad. I dont have the codes btw.

Question: The plastic tubes running above the engine, are those considered vacuum tubes?

I am going to make an assumption that I have to replace the vacuum tubes so I need to know what those tubes are. I.E. the tubes above the engine, the rubber ones going into the intake and the ones from the purge valve.

There has to be a loose connection somewhere causing the rough idle. I happened the other day when I forgot to connect a hose. I checked it today and did not see any loose connections. Ugh!

I got the code its a turbo control valve.

This would cause the rough idle? Odd.

Where is it located. I am at work and cannot get on Vadis. Thanks.

On the S70 GLT, the turbo control valve is attached to the side of the air cleaner box. It has 3 hoses connected to it, you can see the red one coming in to the top in the pic.

Anybody know where to find the part? I cant find a turbo control valve online or at IPDUSA. I looked online, I did not call them.

I see booster control valves online but those look exactly like the purge valve I just replaced.

Any ideas?

IPD has an after market HD Turbo Control Valve on sale for $76.42. For some reason, it is not in the S80 section, but in all other P2 models. This is the link in the S60 section:
http://www.ipdusa.com/version.asp?st...D=0&V_ID=10726

They are all the same on the P2 models so this will work. If you are changing it, you might want to replace you vacuum lines running to it while you are at it with silicone line. I did not and have not needed to but I suspect I will have to within the near future.

Ceepyou-

Thanks for the info. So, the turbo control valve will cause rough idle? Why?

apfurste 06-24-2009 03:44 PM

And the silicone lines? I found these:

Will they work?

It's also called the boost pressure valve or solenoid:

BW77-

I believe you are incorrect on that. That is a purge valve for the evap system. I just installed that last Friday. The link that ceepyou has sent me looks correct.

The only problem with the OE type valves is that they cannot be taken apart and cleaned, this means that you will spend more money in the long run than spending an additional $15 to $30. Also, the spring in the iPd version is stronger and holds open longer at higher RPMs giving the T6 a little more PSI in those RPM ranges and that equals a little more pep. How much, not too much, but the fact that a person can clean it when it is clogged and put it back together is what sold me.

You also need 5mm lines that are not in the kit from Summit Racing but iPd sells it at a sale price of $2.04/ft and it is all bundled in the same shipping cost (or cheaper than ordering from two sources). It can be found here:

http://www.ipdusa.com/version.asp?st...D=0&V_ID=10727

There is also a need for more spring clamps. You need 3 but at $.45/ea you can order one or two extra in case you need them or lose some. They are here:

Boost pressure valve has 3 lines attached to it:

Purge valve has 2 lines:

Thanks Ceep, you are the man.

I am ordering everything today. God this car is driving me batty. Its like a woman, high maintenance.

ceepyou 06-24-2009 04:27 PM

Whoah! Wait a second. The parts he posted were just like the OE parts. Was the part you replaced on the left side of the airbox with 3 lines marked with red, blue, and yellow(maybe green) ran to it? If so, then you probably already replaced your Turbo Control Valve.

apfurste 06-24-2009 04:43 PM

No, I replaced the purge valve on that attaches on the drivers side of the cooling fan. That is the purge valve correct?

I will check when I get home. I might have stuck my foot in my mouth regarding the valve.

ceepyou 06-24-2009 04:47 PM

It is not a big deal for being wrong. The big deal is making sure you do not replace the same part twice. In this case, you will not be. I hope everything works for you.

apfurste 06-24-2009 05:49 PM

I did replace the purge valve with the right part.

Both of those parts look the same.

I will talk to IPD and follow up later.

apfurste 06-26-2009 08:02 PM

OK, I installed the part from IPD and it runs great.

I like the look of the blue silicone hoses. I want to make all the hoses that color. It looks like something out of the fast and the furious.

Plus since I cant afford to get my wife silicone I figured this should do.

Until the next CEL..........

P.S. My warranty for the 10 year/200k mile warranty on the ETM expired ten days ago. :p
