Had oil changed over filled a half quart?
I just had my oil changed about 1,000 miles ago. Today my check engine light came on and I decided to check the car out. I pulled the oil dipstick and it's roughly a half quart over the full mark? Roughly about a 1/4" over the full point for reference.
Could that cause the check engine light to come on or would the oil light come on? I am calling the garage tomorrow and telling them it's over filled and want them to change it again and correct the issue. Would any of you do the same? Am I over reacting? The car is an 04 S80 T6 and just turned 100,000 on it this week. Runs like a champ and I don't want to take any chances! Thanks for your suggestions and comments! Spankey:) |
I don't think the CEL is related to the slight overfill of oil, but you do have a right to complain since an S80 is a nice car and demands proper maint. Let us know what you find with the CEL.

Well the largest risk of overfilling is that you can create a backpressure onto the rear main seal (rear crankshaft seal) possibly rupturing it and incurring a MASSIVE repair cost. I think the engine oil bible does a pretty good job of listing the possible consequences of overfilling

I would def. get the CEL light scanned to see what happened!

get the SES light scanned, you are guessing until you do that
a slight overfill can be managed, your tubo burns a little oil anyways |
Thanks guys, I am going to have the car scanned and reply back with the findings!
