Haynes Manual

Has Haynes come out with a manual for a S80? There was rumors of it being released in 2006 and I have yet to find one. The reason I asked is because I read the post about the ABS / STC light coming on and I have the same problem in mine. I am posting it here because I don't think I have the answer to my questions. However, my car is an S80 2.9 and everything works, except for the Trip Computer, Odometer, and the caution sign with the three messages (Brake Failure, ASB Service, and STC Service). Now, I do need my brakes done because they just started to make the noise about a week ago. Do you think just doing a brake job would work, or is it something much worse? Also, I need shocks but I am not so sure if that is the cause either. (i.e. Hitting a bump / chuckhole that would cause the wires to come loose or unconnected.) I found these links: http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/ & http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/Volvo_Parts/Volvo_V70_ABS.htm and it tells me how to take the module out myself and put in a new one, but I am afraid that I will mess something up. I really don't want to spend an ungodly amount of money, and go to the Volvo dealership, for something that I can probably do myself (with a little help from somone holding a flashlight). There was a question on Vicrocha's site under the FAQ that peaked my interest also:

My mechanic (Dealer) tells me that the unit must be re-programmed after the installation. Is this true? This statement and other similar questions I get are, in my opinion, extortion. Some mechanics (only a minority) are not familiar with the way the ABS system works, others are ignorant and the ones that know that this is their last chance to get your money. Once the unit is re-installed (A brand new, a used or a rebuilt one) the car will perform a self test when you drive the car. At about 14 MPH the ABS Unit will check all the sensor signals, it will activate the pump and test all the solenoids (valves). I'm not sure if you can call this "Programming". I don't mean to bash any mechanics. I have been one for over 20 years, Master ASE, for at least half of my career. If a mechanic lies to get your business, he is asking for it. This statement is not a generalization and does not apply to all.

Does anyone know if "re-programming" will get all of the codes that I need? Or do I need to get any codes if I am getting a new module? Shouldn't the module already have the codes on it? The one thing I have not checked was my fuses. Replacing my good fuses with new ones worked for my turn signal problem, but does anyone think that this will work for the ABS Module also? I'm just wondering what my options are because I am half tempted to buy a new one and replacing it myself. I don't want to rebuild it unless it is a lot cheeper than a $750 unit. Also where can I get a new OEM ABS Module for cheep(er) than the dealer? Plus I think it is really handy to have a Haynes Manual around just in case something else happens. :D

RE: Haynes Manual

The only S80 Haynes manual that I am aware of is available here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HAYNES-VOLVO-V...d=p3286.c0.m14

It covers most, but not all items on our cars because it's made for Europe.

I think you probably need to have your ABS module rebuilt. It's aLOT cheaper to have it rebuilt than get a new one.

your issues are very vague and random. you need to list the exact problems. then we can mention the most possible problems. i think hes right about the ABS module. they have to be replaced or rebuilt a lot. and as for the statement quoted, i say no. just because you install a new part doesnt mean that it will automatically work. its just like a new driver for a printer on a pc. it must be reprogrammed for the format in use. now im not sure about the volvo s80 but a mechanic saying that is not exortation. these newer cars are like that. and yes as a whole us technicians have given ourselves a bad name because of lying or b-s-ing. so forgive us, we are trying to correct that assumption. good luck

RE: Haynes Manual

Thanks for the info vegasjetskier and bigern45! :D Do you happen to know how much that would cost? Oh somethings that I forgot to mention... I have reason to believe that my car had been sitting for a long time (It only has 85,127 miles on it right now and I have only put 427 miles on the car since I got it in May.) and that most of the problems it has / had are because of it sitting. I still think that it has most of the OE on it (i.e. brakes / shocks / tires) are from when it was new off of the lot. As for the warning light / messages, most of the time the warning light / messages comes on when I start the car, and they stay on until I turn the car off. During this time nothing works that I mentioned in my first post. Then sometimes the warning light / messages does not come on when I start the car, but then it comes on after 5 minutes or so. During that 5 minutes everything works that I said above. Another thing is that, sometimes the warning light does not come on but the messages are still there and nothing works that I mentioned in my first post. Then there was one time I was pulling into a parking spot, and I was backing up to realign the car so that I could be in between the white lines, and the car died. It seemed like the car got confused on what I was doing and shut down. It was the weardest thing. When I started it back up it ran just fine. Needless to say I was confused and a little worried, but it has not done it since then.

The ABS module is most likely bad.

Also look on e-bay for a program called Vadis. That will be better than a haynes or chilton manual.

Hi Tech, here's a VADIS on Ebay, but the price seems very cheap. Do you think this is a reasonable deal? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=290256994508

Hmmm... I saw that price on his site, but he has not updated it since 2007(at least that was the last date I saw on there), so I dunno if he is still doing that or not... I suppose I could send him an email and see. What was the other website site that rebuilt ABS Modules?
