My Volvo's Rearviewmirror!!! 10-06-2010 09:03 PM

Help with my "new" used Volvo=D Please

As of yesterday, I am the proud owner of a Volvo (99 model S80), yay!!! Now, being a grad student this is obviously a used one, but I love her just the same. Right now I have one pressing issue that I need to get fixed asap. A connector wire to the driver's side "low beam" light appears to be burnt. So, I don't have a low beam, it will work on high, but I can't get it to stay on high. I need to get this replaced asap so I'm not a target for the cops to pull over. What do I need to buy to fix this (also, any guesstimate on cost)? Also, how do I get the lights to stay on bright, when I pull it toward the steering wheel, it does "flash" bright, but it doesn't stay. Now, both my cigarette lighters do not work (I need this for my phone and iTrip, lol), could this be a fuse? What do I need to do in order to take care of this? Thank you in advance!!!:):):)

To get the lights to stay bright, the lights dial on the left side has to be in the 12 o'clock position. It probably is in the 9 o'clock position. Then you can toggle between low and high.

Are you sure the wire is toast? Maybe you can switch bulbs from the other side just to make sure you have a burnt out bulb.

It appears to be burnt and the guy I bought it from showed it to me before I bought it. I'm almost 100% sure that's it, I'm hoping the bulb is still good (just looking at it, it appears to be). I found a part online:

I'm wondering if this will fix it. Also, would this be something that Autozone might carry so I can get it sooner rather than waiting on it to be shipped?

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to answer already!!!:)

i would if i were a betting man say your bulb(low beam) is burnt and not the wire.....I would have you take the bulb from the other side that you know works and put it in the side that does not....this will tell you for sure if it is the bulb or the wire....it will also save you from having to buy a bulb or connector repair kit until you actually know what your dealing with!! JMO :-)
