Help....S80 battery dead often.

This happens a few times before. This morning i can't ignite again, but the lights in the car all work. Usually i use jump cable to solve this problem but it's just temporary. BTW, when i dive a uphill, i find engine fan on for a while after i turn off the engine, i doubt the fan runs my battery out, too. Can anybody figure it out and how to solve my battery issue? Thanks so much in advance.

How old is your battery? If it's more than 4 yrs old its getting time to replace it.

IF the lights are on, do they turn off or go dim when try to start the car? Does the car *click* when you turn the ignition on? These are indications that either the + or the - battery cable is loose or at least poorly connected.

You can have the battery load tested at a parts place, takes about an hour, if you question the battery viability.

Volvo20,

If your battery is new and engine does turn over then I suggest go for the Parasitic Draw Test. It will surly help. But before that be sure following are working Battery, Starter, alternator.

Thanks so much to Kwatt and Majorcode, your kindly advices are really helpful! My battery might surprise everyone here, it's 13 years old and never replaced(i ever thought it could be used very very long), my volvo 2000 s80 only has 85,000km roughly so far. Yesterday i went to Cosco and bot a new battery costing me $117 Canadian dollars including tax, and i installed by myself taking me around 20 minutes via youtube's intruction, now everything looks wonderful and i don't need worry my battery any more, happy!:):)
