Just when I thought I was in the clear....

Hello

As you know I just got my 30k major service done, and about 2-300 miles later, The check engine light and Emissions system service light came back on. When I am accelerating
(turboing) or if in tiptronic(slow acceleration) I am in gear 2 the check engine light flahes several times. Even when the check engine is solid already with in combination of the Emissions system service light.

Is that a serious problem? or is it just time to change both the coils? I know didly squat on how to do repairs....Is this something a person could do easily(have very little experiecne working on cars)? What would I technically have to do?

thanks!

I would say time to replace the coils. If you only had codes for the 2 cylinders then you could change the 2.

To replace them you would have to remove all the piping on the top of the engine. Then the black cover on the top of the engine.

Those pipes are a pain to remove and install. And if all the clamps loosen easy.

1 Coil per cylinder. I would replace cylinder #5

It depends on how fast you work!!!

You have 5 Hose clamps. 4 hoses and 2 Torxes screws then the big pipes are off. Then 7 T-30 screws and the cover is off. Then one 10mm screw and the coil is out.

If you are moderate should take between 30min and a hour.

Guess what tech,

I brought my car into volvo and they put it up to the computer, according to what they got, they said my throttle body had to be changed, a gasket and ETM reload. This just goes to show how OBD II readers and can be wrong, i almost did something that i didnt need to do. BUT the best part was IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY LOL, i asked the guy how much this would have cost- he said around 1000$!!. Also they did an open recall, ETM/ECM software for free also.

Anyways it feels more responsive and a bit quicker for the turbo....the upgrade supposedly is suppose to give you better gas mileage.......
